cottage garden, fields, woodland & water
Potter, cook, explore
Whilst our Bolthole is situated in the middle of some truly stunning countryside with endless walks on your doorstep, it can sometimes be hard to leave the land on which it sits. From lazing on the lawn gazing at the view to frolicking in the fields and wild cooking, there is much to entertain. Wildlife extends to wood peckers, deer, kites, buzzards (look up) and rabbits. On a clear night the stars are incredible!.
COTTAGE Garden
In front of the Bolthole sits a wonderful little garden. It is still in its infancy but none the worse for being a work in progress. A small paved area for outside dining, chalk drawing and supping sits next to our herb garden. Lawn meanders down to hedge which gives way to a panoramic view of the Wye Valley, Hay Bluff and, on a clear day, Pen y Fan reaching to the sky in the distance.
Field & Dingle
Over the hedge from the cottage garden are our very own mini fields. Slowly being brought back from impenetrable bramble jungle to wildflower meadow they are a haven for wildlife and perfect for close-to-home adventuring. The woods lead down a steep bank to a small dingle (stream) which marks the boundary of the property.
wild cooking
Being in nature leads to cooking in nature. Our wood-fired oven is perfect pizzas, roasts, bakes and even crumbles. There is also a fire pit in the field for which (with prior arrangement) we can supply a large grill, parilla, tripod and family sized cast iron pan to hang over the fire for the ultimate camp fie cooking experience. For little ones there’s a mud kitchen - the owner is coming to terms with sharing!
